Personal Advocacy Journey
Quote: "Our voices will be heard in the future when we take up an advocacy issue, " -Dawn Hudson.
What inspires and excites you most about your advocacy plan and being an
advocate?
What inspires me and excites me about my advocacy plan and being an advocate is knowing that I am helping families so they can live better lives and have health children. Plus I enjoy arguing for what is right and having my share of what belongs to me and families.
What challenges and/or anxieties do you feel related to engaging in the
advocacy efforts you have targeted?
The challenges I feel is not having the time and support that is needed to get an advocacy plan going and make sure it gets the attention it needs to make it to lobbyist.
What do you believe will be most effective in helping you overcome any
challenging emotions you may be feeling with regard to presenting and
implementing your Advocacy Action Plan?
Being able to get more families on board and community leaders will definitely help me overcome my emotions because know their is a team of people working on a cause not just me.
How can you encourage others in their advocacy efforts, and how can others
encourage you?
We as educators have the passion to help others, using this passion can help us accomplish everything and getting people to listen is a natural skill that educators have so lets get the ball rolling and speak out about what we want to do to help our families and be grateful for the help you can get so your advocacy efforts are not jeopardized because of not having enough time to work on advocacy.

Hi Katherine, I just wanted to say that you have a great post. I do feel that as classmates, we do support one another on our topics for our action plans. My advice to you is to keep a straight head and make changes to your plan as needed and all will go well.
ReplyDeleteThank You Tiffany colleagues like you are what keep me motivated to do well in these classes that can be so over whelming good luck to you in your advocacy plan and make changes for us and our future teachers, lawyers, doctors.
DeleteYour quote is perfect for what we are learning and doing. It is inspiring to think that our advocacy efforts can make a difference. By taking action and reaching out to policy makers and the general public our voices will be heard and people will support our efforts. Part of the reason I chose to go to school for Early Childhood Education and to work with young children, is because I want to do what I can to ensure each child is safe and healthy. It is great to hear that this is an important topic for you as well. When selecting my topic I was thinking more about the classroom; but I feel it is important to advocate for a safe and healthy environment and life for the children outside the classroom as well. Maybe you will not feel as pressured with time if you had the support of a colleague of other childcare professional. Is there anyone that would join you in your advocacy efforts? Sometimes just putting the information out to the policy makers and general public can get your point across and encourage people to take action. You could create a flyer or fact sheet that people can read and learn more about your topic. I like your enthusiasm! Teachers need to speak out and work to help our families and teach families how they can help support the children and your advocacy plan. It sounds like you have a great attitude that will get people’s attention!
ReplyDeleteSarah to answer your question about weither there would be anyone that would join me in your advocacy efforts; I would have to say yes. The family service worker at the local YMCA childcare center where I have been doing my field service work at I think would help advocate. She also wants change but like me she wants change to happen within centers, so families can see the importance and from their slowly introduce to families how these changes if made a concern to the government can create great results for our children.
DeleteI agree that making flyer's and providing families and workers with information about what could happen is a great thought but the need for change is taking place every day and we need to work fast to make our families aware of what is happening when they walk away. I guess you can say striking fear always gets the ball moving. But Thanks for taking the time to post and I hope your journeys will this class and your advocacy efforts are successful.
